Spring is almost here, and many women are already looking at all the new spring and summer fashion coming to the stores. You might love all of the great styles coming out but replacing your entire wardrobe may not be practical. The best thing you can do is focus on ways to freshen up your look without replacing everything you own.
If you have some neutral tops already, you can freshen up the look simply by getting some new necklaces, scarves, earrings, or other accessories. These little details can give you a more modern look without needing to change clothes that are perfectly good. Additionally, if you have items you never wear, you can always donate, sell, or give them to someone who would enjoy them and give them a new life.
Shoes are one of those wardrobe items that are fully functional and necessary, but can also look dated and sad after years of use. Chuck some of your older pairs of shoes and invest in a cute pair of comfortable platform sandals or flats for a stylish addition to your closet. Buying one pair you really love and will wear often, is better than buying a bunch of cheap pairs that leave you trying to figure out what to wear. A good pair of shoes that can be casual or dressy is the perfect option.
Pants don’t change quite the same way that shirt styles do. While you may still have some low-rise jeans, you can usually get away with wearing them when you pair them with the right tops and still be fashionable. Find tops with newer patterns, colors, and cuts to make your wardrobe look more 2022 and less 2012.
In addition to looking for blouses and shirts to match with pants you already own, you can layer others underneath newer styles of blazers, jackets, sweaters, and other overshirts. These pieces tend to stay in style a little longer, but also help to update your look when you go out. You can be on trend without needing to own only trendy pieces. Your closet should have a mix of timeless clothes, along with some trendy pieces that you switch out every few years.
Do you have a friend that is always buying new clothes and getting rid of others? Buy second-hand. You’d be amazed at the stylish pieces you can get through upscale thrift stores, consignment stores, and even a friend’s closet. Buying second-hand doesn’t have the same negative connotation that it once did, and you can find some incredible choices when you aren’t worried about whether or not your clothing pieces are brand-new or gently used.
Another option is to swap clothing. Some communities have groups of women who get together a few times a year to trade their clothes. You can score some amazing finds that might be one-of-a-kind when you do this. And because these women may not be in the same spheres of people like you, the clothes will seem new to not only you but to others as well.
Having a closet full of clothes and feeling like you have nothing to wear is frustrating. Evaluate your clothes to determine if you have items that need to go. You might have items you’ll never wear again, but you may want to save. You could have things that don’t fit right now but might later. Take all these items out of your closet. This will help you see what you’re really dealing with.
Next, think of different ways to pair items that you wouldn’t normally do. Do you have a skirt that could be worn as a strapless dress with a cute belt? Do you have a jacket that would look nice with the right pair of jeans? Or maybe you have a shirt that you could wear backward to give it a different look. No matter what you have going on in your closet, fashion is always changing and you can easily freshen up your look with any of these tips that won’t break the bank.
